Yesterday Disney made it official The Muppets 2 has been greenlit and it looks like Muppet Domination will continue for another few years.  The full report can be read over at the Hollywood Reporter.

This pretty epic news.  After all, The Muppets just hit theaters Thanksgiving last year.  So in a mere five months the movie has also won an Academy Awards for best original song, been released on Blu-ray and now a sequel has been confirmed.  If there was any doubt that Disney has been impressed with the box office and continued appeal of these characters then it surely must be squashed at this point.

Part of the Disney marketing campaign for The Muppets was the phrase “Muppet Domination” (it was even trending on Twitter for awhile) and it looks like it wasn’t only savvy marketing but prophetic.

In spite of me not being 100% thrilled by this latest Muppets movie, it was still a big improvement in quality from their last two efforts. I’m extremely excited to see their success and hope this next movie really blasts them into the stratosphere once again.
